Remembering LTM memories is a reconstructive process. We are not passive recorders of information. Instead, we recreate a memory every time it is remembered. This explains why we can share an experience with someone else, but remember it quite differently. We not only remember the event, but our interpretation of it. This includes the context, as well as the feelings you experienced at the time. It is likely that these other factors are not even part of your conscious experience. It is likely that these other factors are not even part of your conscious experience.

Teachers - and parents - should be spending their time helping children develop the skills they need to be able to learn and to adapt what they are learning to how they learn best. This is not difficult to do but it does take knowledge and an awareness to put priorities on learning rather than teaching. Technology is helping kick start this process and that is great- but we still have a long way to go. The sooner we prioritize learning over teaching the better.
